Keswick Camping & Caravanning club site, on the shores of Derwentwater, is hard to beat as a base to explore the Lake District with stunning views extending over the lake to the hills beyond.
Whether you are a stroller, a rambler, a high-level walker or prefer to see the sights by bike, you can take your pick from numerous lake and hillside tracks easily accessible from the site. Keswick town is within walking distance for provisions, outdoor gear, eating and drinking, plus has a farmers' market on Thursdays and Saturdays. With Derwentwater so close at hand there are plenty of water-based activities, including canoeing and kayaking.
The site has 250 grass or hardstanding pitches, most with electric hook-up. The inclusion of a washing up area, a laundry and a new backpacker room is particularly useful for those arriving on foot or by bike. Glamping pods available to hire. Non-members are very welcome and may join on site. Please speak to site staff for details and to check pitch availability before arrival. Fishing can be enjoyed on the lake - hire a boat from one of the marinas to catch pike, bream and trout.
Alternatively, enjoy the lake and its views aboard one of the motor launches which operate around the lake and offer several drop off points. At the southern end of Derwentwater is the beautiful valley of Borrowdale where you will find the Neolithic Castlerigg Stone Circle and the medieval and much photographed pack horse bridge at Ashness.
